Project Dune 2008/2009 roadmap
Introduction
The roadmap for a project defines the strategy of the project. It is based on the project's mission. The roadmap is meant to guide decisions to be taken in the project and as a means of communication to the user's community on the directions of the project. The roadmap is a living document that will see future iterations.
Future Directions
The mission and strategy of the project dictate the general direction. This section documents the direction in more detail.
- Continue to improve on existing modules to make them more useful and easier to use. This currently indicates especially the inspection module and the document management module.
- Support the integration of other business information systems, like a financial system and human resources systems. The efforts on which systems to integrate and how are guided by "demand" in the industry and the market.
- Improve the project's ability to customize, plug in break-out objects and tweak the system to their specific needs.
- Analyze best standards and practices and develop an accompanying toolset to support those practices.

- Analysis and design of large features
- Improve the documentation online
3rd Quarter 2008:
- Project managers should have alternate means for estimating their projects.
- We do this by the integration of new estimation methods into the estimation module
4th Quarter 2008:
- Some modules are difficult to use, the user interface is clunky and the back-end persistence isn't properly thought out.
- The inspection and document management modules will be redeveloped. Other modules need to be considered for interface improvements.
- The main processes in software development documented on the wiki
- Full documentation to using the project's software available online
1st Quarter 2009:
- Project managers should not need external tools for daily project management
- A new project management module is to be developed. This should include project management tools and utilities, like Gantt charts and integration with other modules of the Project Dune system.
- It should be possible for companies to integrate their business systems with Project Dune to share information
- Prepare an architecture for business integration, for example SOAP or XML or messaging.
- Integrated the development processes on the wiki into a unified process
Half 2009:
- Publish tools to support the main processes in software development (checklists, forms, etc.)
- Customer Relationship Tools should be able to make references to Project Dune issues in projects
- Provide integration points for CRM software, either through the same SOAP/BI integration points or a new module specifically for this purpose.
